The Pulaski community was thrilled to learn this spring that the school was awarded not one but TWO salad bars through the Whole FoodsGreat American Salad Bar” project. Whole Foods has provided both of Pulaski’s two cafeterias with a portable, five-well salad bar complete with utensils and training tools. The Lunch Box, a training organization developed by Whole Foods in partnership with Chef Ann Cooper (the “Renegade Lunch Lady”), will provide ongoing support for the management of the salad bars.

Since delivery in late April, Pulaski students grades K – 8 have had daily access to these salad bars, providing them with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and healthy proteins. Parent volunteers are on hand to help with the logistics of getting students through the very popular salad bar line, and the school is looking to partner with local restaurants to further enhance the role of fresh produce in students’ diets.

We want our students to learn creative ways of making meals – to take information and recipes back to share with their entire families – to learn the joy and satisfaction to be found in thoughtfully and creatively making their own food – to learn how and where to get great fresh, local food. Thanks to this fantastic addition from Whole Foods, Pulaski is well on our way to realizing these goals.
